Connecting to a headband

To connect to the headband, press the toggle switch under the Bluetooth icon. The Bluetooth icon should start animating showing that it is trying to connect to the headband. If this is your first time connecting to the headband, Windows will prompt you for permission to connect to the headband. Once the headband is connected, the Bluetooth icon will stop animating and remain blue.

The horseshoe shaped indicator represents the signal quality on each channel. The center circle will be black when the headband is on. The remaining circles represent each EEG channel from left to right. An outline represents “mediocre” signal quality and a solid circle indicates “good” quality. An empty circle represents poor signal quality. In the image below:

  • The first EEG channel (Left ear, EEG/0) has good quality
  • The second EEG channel (Left forehead, EEG/1) has mediocre quality
  • The third EEG channel (Right forehead, EEG/2) has good quality
  • The fourth EEG channel (Right ear, EEG/3) has poor quality

Troubleshooting

  • If the headband is disconnected for any reason, Muse Direct will try to reconnect to it automatically and you will see the Bluetooth icon start to animate. If you no longer wish to connect to that headband, move the toggle under the Bluetooth icon to off.

  • If there are continual issues connecting, close Muse Direct and open the Windows Settings application from the Start menu. Select “Devices”
    and then “Bluetooth and other devices”. Select the Muse headband that is having issues and select “Remove device” and then relaunch Muse Direct.
  • If you are using a 2014 headband and have removed the device in the Windows Settings application, you will need to pair the headband with the Windows machine again before it will be seen by Muse Direct.
